Corbin edges Knox

Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski told his young players during half-time of the Knox Central game last night that they would have to step up. They did just that after several starters were benched because of a “lack of intensity”
The result was a 87-80 double overtime win at Knox Central.
The Redhounds (8-7) got off to a sluggish start and trailed the Panthers 16-15 at the end of the first period and 27-23 at the half.
It was in the third period that Pietrowski sent eighth grader Josh Crawford and sophomore Josh Hamlin to do battle with the Panthers
Down, 37-32 the two scored five straight points to pull Corbin within one, 37-36 at the close of the third period.
It was Hamlin who gave Corbin its first lead of the game on a pair of free throws and a field goal, 40-38. The lead changed hands several times before Knox Central appeared to be in control with a 61-56 lead.
That’s when senior Jordan Noble stepped up and hit the first three pointer of the game with :32 left. He followed with a field goal to send the game into overtime.
In the first OT, Corbin jumped out to a four-point lead but seven straight points sent Knox Central ahead, 70-67. Noble hit a basket closing the margin to one before Jordan netted one of two from the line for a 71-69 lead. Blake Freeman hit the tying shot for the second overtime.
Four technical fouls called against Knox Central allowed Corbin to pull away for the victory.
Jordan Noble led the Redhounds with 34 points while Crawford added 12 points.
