Sheriff seizes three pounds of marijuana
Police seized nearly $2,300 in cash and more than three pounds of marijuana while executing a search warrant Monday evening near Cool Camp Road in what Whitley County Sheriff Lawrence Hodge is calling a take down of the county’s biggest marijuana dealer.
“They are the major players of Whitley County,” Hodge said. “Every task force, every state trooper knows about them.”
Hodge said a confidential informant made a controlled buy at the residence of Keith Caddell and Carl Hucklebee earlier in the day Monday.
He said the informant purchased marijuana, which was selling for nearly $1,400 a pound.
Hodge said deputies served separate search warrants at two residences less than a quarter mile apart shortly after 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Police first went to Caddell’s residence on US25W, and then proceeded to Hucklebee’s residence at 100 Cool Camp Road, a press release noted.
Soon after searching the residence, deputies turned up about three pounds and 12 ounces of processed marijuana that Hodge said was worth roughly about $4,500.
“In Carl Hucklebee’s garage outside the residence, four people were passing and smoking a marijuana joint. Unknown to the four people, Whitley County deputies were outside the garage watching as they smoked the marijuana,” Hodge said.
All four people were placed under arrest, and about four ounces of marijuana was found inside the garage, Hodge reported in a press release.
Police charged Caddell, 37, of Pleasant View, and Hucklebee, 37, of Cool Camp Road, with trafficking marijuana over eight ounces but under five pounds, Hodge noted in the release.
Police also charged Ray Johnson, 56, Steven Wright, 49, Ricky Dawn, 32, and Monty Sands, 24, all of Williamsburg with public intoxication.
“The investigation is continuing, and more arrests are expected,” Hodge added.
Officers taking part in the raid included: Hodge, Sheriff’s Detective Chuck Davis, Deputy Scott Lake, Deputy Harold Hicks, and Williamsburg Police Officer Jason Caddell.
