Redhounds Rule
The Corbin Redhounds rolled past the Whitley County Colonels to claim their second 13th Region Baseball title, 10-0 in six innings Wednesday night at Corbin’s House Field.
The Redhounds won their last title in 1994 when they finished in the final four.
Corbin sophomore Josh Hamilin scored the only run the Redhounds would need in the top of the second when he went to first on a walk by Whitley County pitcher Derek Shelley. Hamlin went to third on a hit and run by Josh Ware then scored on a Jake McDaniel sacrifice.
The Redhounds extended its lead to 3-0 in the top of third when Lucas Henson led the inning off with a single. He went to second on a passed ball. Travis Prewitt hit a one out single up the middle.
Shelley loaded the bases with a walk to Kenny Kysar. Whitley County coach John Smith brought in Ryan Fox to pitch but the junior walked Hobe Watkins and Josh Hamlin, forcing in Henson and Prewitt for a 3-0 lead. Fox struck out Ware and made McDaniel fly out to get out of the inning.
Corbin added three runs in hte fourth and fifth inning for a 9-0 lead then put the game away in the top of the sixth. Watkins scored the winning run on a sacrifice by McDaniel.
