Bullets take three of four
The Bullets won three of four games played over the weekend at Corbin’s House Field. Friday the Bullets hosted The Central Kentucky Red Legs (Madison Southern) and swept the Berea team, 10-1 and 11-0.
North Laurel’s Kyle Parsley and McCreary Central’s Todd Strunk allowed just one run on three hits in the first game as the Bullets won 10-1.
Williamsburg ace, John Reynolds shutout the Red Legs in game two, allowing just two hits in a 11-0 five inning win.
“He did a great job on the mound and the defense played great behind him,” said coach Jim Sadler. “He has given us two strong back to back games.”
“I think we got some real good pitching Friday night from the guys on the mound,” added Sadler.
In game one, North Laurel’s Ryan Sams was three of four while Corbin’s Josh Hamlin went two for four. In game two, McCreary Central’s Patrick Ross had a three-run homer while Rockcastle County’s Ben Graves and Sams had three hits each.
Sunday saw a showdown of two local teams as the Bullets hosted the Whitley Cardinals. The Cardinals took a 11-9 win in game one with Michael Frady getting the win. The Bullets took game two in a 7-4 decision.
The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the game but the Bullets came back to go ahead 6-2. However a nine-run inning by the Cardinals sent Whitley ahead 11-6. “We started a real young pitcher,” said Sadler. “We didn’t play real well behind him. We hit the ball but just didn’t play good defense.”
The Bullets picked up a run when Josh Hamlin drew a walk and was followed by a Travis Prewitt triple.
In the fifth, the Bullets added a pair of runs on a triple by Reynolds. But that was the closest the Bullets could get. Frady was able to hold off the Bullets in the final two innings while Cashen shut down the Cardinals but took the loss.
The second game saw the Bullets take the win from former Whitley County ace, Jeremy Taylor, 7-4. “We played a lot better with a more experienced pitcher on the mound,” said Sadler.
The Bullets will be at home today against Boyle County at 5 p.m. and are scheduled to play Campbellsville Thursday at 5 p.m.
They are scheduled to host an invitational tournament this weekend at House Field.
