Burglars steal electronics from Central Primary
Police are searching for the person or persons responsible for a burglary and theft at Central Primary Elementary School in Corbin late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.
School officials say they aren’t sure how thieves got into the school, which has been a rare target for such crimes in the past.
“To my knowledge, this is the first time this has happened,” said school principal Amon Couch, who has served in the position for four years.
Couch said there was no obvious sign of forced entry when he arrived at Central Primary early Tuesday morning, but he did notice some things were different.
“Things were just out of kilter,” he said. “Things were not where they should have been. Then we started noticing a few things missing here and there. That’s kind of how it went.”
Couch would not say what specifically was stolen, but did say it was some “audio/visual” equipment and other electronics.
“You could tell they were looking for certain things.”
Police investigated the scene Tuesday morning, and then canvassed the neighborhood surrounding Central Primary for possible witnesses to the crime.
Couch said Central Primary is one of the school’s in the district that does not have surveillance cameras on-site to catch burglars and thieves. Corbin Middle School and Corbin High School are both equipped with cameras.
“We’ve really never had a need for that,” he said. “Those other schools tend to be the more obvious targets.”
No arrests were made as of press time in the case.
Anyone with any information regarding the break-in is encouraged to call Corbin Police at 528-1122.
