Corbin juvenile injured during scuffle at local music club
A Corbin juvenile was assaulted at a local nightclub over the weekend, and police expect to arrest his attacker soon.
Sixteen-year-old Derreck Gilreath, of Corbin, suffered a three-inch laceration to the nose following a brief scuffle at Felt’s Music Place Saturday night.
An arrest warrant was obtained Monday for Alex Bowling, of Williamsburg, by Gilreath’s mother. Bowling is suspected of the attack.
Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Alan Onkst said, according to witnesses, Bowling approached Gilreath and a group of friends he was with and hit him unprovoked.
“He said the guy had a roll of quarters in his hand and a ring on when he hit him,” Onkst said. “It was the ring that cut him.”
The fight was broken up quickly by others at the club and by security personnel. Bowling was ejected from the premises.
Police say the fight was the result of a long-standing disagreement between the two, but would not elaborate further.
Onkst said Bowling would likely be charged with fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor offense, when arrested.
