Dixon Does It
The Lynn Camp Wildcats rebounded from a 74-63 loss to the Red Bird Cardinals by blasting the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets, 90-39 Tuesday night.
Cody Dixon, a 6-6 senior center scored 16 of the Campers’ 19 first quarter points as the Wildcats lead 19-17 after the first eight minutes.
Lynn Camp outscored the Jackets 31-12 in the second quarter to end the half with a 50-29 advantage.
The second half was all Lynn Camp as quick baskets were scored by Chris Eggen and Dixon as the Wildcats went on an early 8-0 run.
Michael McRay’s pull-up jumper with just under four minutes to play in the third gave the Jackets their first and only points of the quarter as the Jackets were outscored by the Wildcats 23-2.
“The biggest difference tonight was, I played 12 people in that first quarter and I think we wore them down,” said Lynn Camp coach Anthony Pennington.
“I think our athletic ability took over as the game went on and gained confidence,” said Pennington.
“The rest factor came into play,” added Pennington.. “I played a lot more people than I have ever played.”
“I wanted to play the others early in the game to give Cody, Nathan (Tanner) and our guards a rest and still really keep up the pressure,” said Pennington.
It paid off for the Wildcats as Lynn Camp had 42 rebounds and 17 steals in the win.
Dixon led the Wildcats with a season high 26 points and pulled down 18 rebounds in the lopsided victory.
“We went to him early,” said Pennington. “We went inside-out and it paid off.”
Eggen with 16, and Adam Bray with 15. Michael McRay and Chase Fields lead the Jackets with 10 points each.
Lynn Camp (13-7) will be back in action Friday night as they welcome the Raiders of McCreary Central. Williamsburg (2-13) will travel to Casey County Friday night to take on the Rebels.
Pennington said his team is just now learning to play together and will have a tight test when McCreary Central comes to town.
“They have the second most wins in the 12th region,” said Pennington. “This will be a tight test for us. They are very much like Pineville.”
