Corbin Out!!
The Corbin Redhounds saw their season come to an end at the hands of 13th region host, Clay County 58-49, Tuesday night.
Clay County (23-5) nailed eight free throws in the final :32 seconds to pull out a close win over the Redhounds.
Corbin (17-11), who trailed for much of the game, had a chance to take the lead inside the final minute of play after senior Ryan Tate hit a three pointer to pull the Redhounds within one (50-49) with :43 seconds left in the contest.
The Redhounds battled inside for the lead when freshman Josh Crawford missed the go-ahead basket.
Clay County’s Anthony Hibbard was fouled with :32 ticks left and hit both ends of the bonus for a 52-49 lead. The Tigers moved farther ahead when leading scorer Will Jones hit two free throws for a 54-49 cushion, 11 seconds later.
Corbin failed to score in the final seconds after missing a three-point shot and turning the ball over. Jones was fouled each time and connected on all four free throws for the final margin.
“I thought we played extremely hard,” said Corbin coach Tony Pietrowski. “We battled hard on the boards.”
“The kids stepped up and made some big shots,” Pietrowski. “We were two or three inches from taking the lead and it might have been a different story.”
“I’m proud of this senior class,” Pietrowski said. “Ryan Swim, Ryan Tate, Kyle French and Ryan Logan gave everything they had in the games and in practices. They all improved this year.”
“I think when these guys look back they will have a lot to be proud of,” said Pietrowski.
Freshman Josh Crawford led the Redhounds with 16 points while Tate tossed in 11 points to close out his Redhound career.
Clay County was led by their inside game of Will Jones with 22 points.
