REDHOUND ACTION
The Corbin Redhounds held off the Knox Central Panthers for a 7-5 win at House Field Monday.
The Panthers started the season losing six of their first seven have rebounded to put together a fine 7-11 season.
Knox Central scored first in the top of the second when Blevins drew a walk from Lucas Henson. He scored on a base hit by Gambrel.
Corbin, who left four runners stranded in the first three innings, struck in the bottom of the fourth. Josh Smith pounded his way on board with a single. Britt Brittian followed with a one-bagger and Hart walked to load the bases. Josh Hamlin doubled in Smith and Brittian while Henson’s sacrifice allowed Hart to post the third run of the inning.
The Redhounds took a two-run lead into the top of the fifth. The Panthers answered with three runs, retaking the lead at 4-3 in the game.
Corbin then knocked out Central pitcher, Greg Merdia with a single to Clint Cashen and walks to Smith and Brittian. With the bases full Cory Sewell greeted Any Mitchell with a two-run single and the lead for the Redhounds.
Salmon sent Sewell home with a double and he later scored on an error at the bat of Hamlin for a 7-4 lead.
Henson pitched six innings, giving up four runs on five base hits and two walks. He struck out four batters and got the win. Merdia gave up seven hits in the loss.
The Panthers added run in the top of the seventh but the Redhounds held on for the win.
Corbin will play in the Battle of the Rock at Rockcastle County Friday and Saturday. The Redhounds will play the host Rockets along with Ohio County and East Jessamine.
