White smashes field in Judge-Exec. primary
In a hard fought primary, Pat White Jr. over came opposition from three other opponents to win the Republican nomination for Whitley County Judge-Executive Tuesday by a nearly 1,600 votes over his closest opponent.
Pat White Jr., an attorney and owner of White Lumber Sales, garnered 3,914 votes to former Democratic judge-executive Leroy Gilbert’s 2,253 votes in his first bid as a Republican, and ex-Whitley County High School football
coach Mike “Benji” Campbell received 1,863 votes. Robert “Bob” Mauney, a retired car lot owner, garnered 270 votes.
“I consider it quite an honor the faith and support the county has put in me today. I will do everything in my power to keep from disappointing that,” White said.
He admits that he was surprised by the margin of victory.
“I had worked extremely hard and thought we had done well, but I think almost everyone was surprised,” White noted.
White, 29, will face Democrat Bob Terrell, 72, in the November General Election.
