STATE TRACK
Williamsburg junior Chase Hamblin found the going tough at the 2006 Kentucky High School Track Meet over the weekend at Lexington Dunbar High School.
Hamblin, who had won four events in the regional competition, finished as high as fourth in the 300 meter hurdles. He finished third in the preliminaries in a time of 42.55 and cut some time off his finals but finished fourth in a time of 42.24.
He finished seventh in the prelims of the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 16.38, then came back Saturday to finish fifth statewide in a time of 16.12.
He struggled in the high jump with a leap of 5-6. He had cleared 5-10 in the region. Hamblin settled for a disappointing 11th place in the state meet. He also ran the 200 meter dash where he failed to reach the finals. He was 14th in a time of 23.83.
Senior Erin White took the third place medal in the pole vault with a vault of 8-6. Seventh grader, Liz Patrick, finished seventh but the first four finishers were seniors. She had a best of eight-feet for the day.
Danni Barton, who had a back injury most of the season, finished 10th in the high jump. She started at 4-8 and finished at 4-8.
The Williamsburg girls 4X200 finished in 15th place with a time of 2:03.65. Barton, White, Afton Trett and Suzannah Perkins made up the team. The 4X400 finished 14th in a time of 4:46.11. Katelyn Harris, Kelsey White, Trett and Erin White were members of the team.
Williamsburg finished with nine points in both the boys’ and girls’ competition.
Nick Mills, a senior at Lynn Camp High School, was 15th in the 400 meter dash against Kentucky’s best runners. He finished in a time of 54.29. Mills will attend Union College in the fall.
The Wildcats 4×100 relay team finished 14th in a time of 48.27. Mills along with sophomore Richard Wynn and freshmen Jonah Mitchell and Sidney Wagner ran the race.
Class AA
The Corbin Redhounds sent several runners to the AA meet. Junior Libby Davis finished ninth in the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.57.
Junior Todd Olson took 8th place in the finals of the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 43.16, He was eighth in the prelims as well with a time of 42.35. Senior Ben White was ninth in the 3200 meter run (two-mile) in a time of 10:32.87.
The 4×800 meter relay team advanced to state and finished 11th with a time of 9:03.50. Olson, White, Nathaniel Clouse and Jake McPheron were members of the team.
Class AAA
Whitley County had some luck at the state meet as well. Sophomore Sarah Estes was the only underclassmen to finish in the top five of the high jump. She took fourth place with a jump of 5-0.
The girls 4×100 meter relay team was 15th. The team consisted of Estes, Jessica Rucker, Kayla Osborne and Shelly Sasser.
The boys sent two relay teams to state. The team of Aaron Canada, Calvin Capps, Eric Partin and Jared Roaden finished 14th in the 4×100 in a time of 47.55 and 12th in the 4×200 with a time of 1:37.21. Partin is the lone senior on the relay team.
