Police seize cocaine, meth at Lily traffic checkpoint
Two people were arrested early Tuesday morning in Lily after police found methamphetamine and cocaine in their truck following a search at a routine roadblock.
Claude Medlin, 42, of Gray, and Beatrice Anderson, 27, of Barbourville were arrested and charged with two counts of drug trafficking after being stopped in the Lily community of Laurel County.
Kentucky State Police Sgt. Steve Walker was conducting a “road check” on U.S. 25 when he stopped a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by Medlin.
Medlin was immediately arrested for DUI and for having no driver’s license on him. A search of the vehicle conducted after the arrest revealed three plastic bags containing crystal methamphetamine (about 62 grams) and one plastic bag of cocaine (about 12 grams) along with drug paraphernalia.
Police estimate the total street value of the drugs at $12,000.
Anderson was a passenger in the vehicle.
The traffic stop and arrests occurred at about 3:50 a.m.
Walker was assisted by Trooper Michelle Lunsford, Laurel County Constable Denver Mays and Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies Eddie Sizemore, Mike Hamblin, Jerry Jones and K-9 dog Matt.
An investigation into the case is continuing by Kentucky State Police.
