Datatrac to bring 225 jobs to Williamsburg
More than 225 new jobs are headed to Williamsburg sometime this year.
U.S. Representative Hal Rogers announced Friday that Datatrac Information Services Inc. intends to open a new facility in Williamsburg, which will employ more than 225 people.
“I am incredibly pleased to welcome Datatrac to Williamsburg,” said Rogers. “Any time new jobs come into our region is a cause for celebration. We have a strong work force, a good quality of life, and a network of support for businesses that makes this area a good place to locate.
“This is yet another example of how our region is demonstrating that it can compete for the high-tech jobs of the future.”
Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison said the company will be located in the old Walmart building at the Cumberland Regional Mall, and that it is his understanding it will probably open sometime in October.
“This can only help the Cumberland Mall. I’m sure that will open up other things that may want to go in there because there will be a lot of traffic that will go in and out. It is just a win-win situation for us,” Harrison said.
“They are going to spend a lot of money renovating that part of the building, and then putting in equipment. It will be something that will just be great for us.”
While 225 new jobs wouldn’t have too much of an impact in Lexington, Harrison noted that it is very significant in a town with a population of only about 5,000 people, and that the company would instantly become one of the town’s largest employers when it opens.
“225 positions in our town is tremendous. It will be a big boost for our economy,” he said.
By comparison, Firestone employees more than 400 workers, Williamsburg Plastics has about 350 employees, SEKRI has more than 200 workers, and CDR employees about 235 people, according to the latest figures compiled by the city.
Datatrac, a national provider of services to the federal government, was recently awarded a competitive, multi-year contract by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to digitize and secure sensitive data. During this initial one-year phase, Datatrac will provide records/document management for the electronic capture of more than 1 million USCIS Alien-Files (A-Files).
This will include physical and electronic record management, document scanning, metadata capture, and creation of information to integrate with the USCIS document management environment.
To provide the services of this new contract, Datatrac is starting up a new facility in Williamsburg. The estimated value of the program is $150 million over the next five years. Currently, Datatrac has processing facilities in Corbin and Barbourville.
Harrison said his understanding is that the company is currently taking applications.
Leslie Cupp, a spokesperson for Rogers’ office, said the company has set up a telephone number that people interested in being perspective employees could call, which is 1-888-344-3112.
