El Dorado manager says restaurant trying to win back community trust
The manager of a local Mexican restaurant said he was unaware that employees were allegedly peeping in on women in the facility’s restroom and that an effort is underway to regain the trust of local customers.
Orlando Delguy said he was “destroyed” when he learned from television reports that police were investigating a case of voyeurism at El Dorado’s Grill and Bar in Corbin. He has managed the restaurant for three years.
“I had to pinch myself,” he said. “I thought, how could this be happening? These people were doing this behind our back and we didn’t know.”
Delguy said employees Islas Blanco Rodolfo and Gustavo Castillo have both been fired in the wake of the investigation, but the damage they’ve caused still lingers. He said daily he deals with questions from the media, police and customers about how, and for how long, the two men were allegedly able to spy on female patrons in the restaurant’s bathroom.
“Two mean people did this,” Delguy said. “Sometimes, people you trust stab you in the back. We feel betrayed. This is not what El Dorado is about.”
Since news of the case hit the newspapers and airwaves, Delguy said the effect on the restaurant has been predictable. He said October is always a “slow month,” but expects things will get better over time. He said he’s been taking all media inquiries in an attempt to explain the situation and to dampen the number of rumors spread about the incident.
“This is bad for me and it’s bad for my family. This place is my life,” he said. “We feel like somebody close to us died. We have a lot of very good people, family people that work here. We need support from the people of Corbin. We need the support of family’s who are our customers. We feel really bad for the people of Corbin. I promise you, we didn’t know anything about this.”
Delguy said his wife and children were regular customers at El Dorado and ate at the restaurant while the alleged peeping was going on. He said he feels victimized as well, knowing his own employees could have been looking in on his family.
“I know how people are feeling,” he said. “My wife and daughter are regular customers here too.”
El Dorado has two locations in the area – one in Corbin and another in London.
