Two teens sought in connection to shooting
Police are searching for two teens they say were involved in the accidental shooting of a Williamsburg woman, and a close call for her infant son.
Police were called to a residence at 1446 Mudcreek Road Saturday afternoon after receiving a report that shots had been fired from an adjacent home. Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Alan Onkst, who along with Deputy Glen Bunch investigated the case, said homeowner Donnie Partin told authorities a shotgun blast from a house just up the road pelted his house and a minivan in his driveway with buckshot. His daughter, Katina Core, was hit in the head and back by pellets from the shot as well.
Onkst said police would likely soon arrest two teenage boys they believe are responsible for the incident.
According to Onkst, the two unidentified boys rode an ATV to the nearby residence and an argument ensued between them and Kerry F. Anderson who was staying at the home at the time. One of the boys is the juvenile nephew of the homeowner.
“There was some type of argument and through the course of the argument, one of the juveniles wound up with a loaded gun,” Onkst said. “He was repeatedly told the weapon was loaded and not to point it at anybody. He discharged the weapon in the direction of the neighboring house and the pellets struck the house, the van and Ms. Core.”
The weapon, a 16-guage shotgun, was found hidden in a back closet when police arrived. The boys left on the ATV prior to the arrival of authorities, but Onkst said he is fairly certain police will be able to locate them.
“I think they were confronted by the homeowner at the bottom of the road when they left, but they refused to stop,” Onkst said. “I don’t think there was any sort of grudge or feud or anything, I think they were just being stupid.”
