Police find needle in man’s arm; drug vials in his car

Williamsburg police discovered a Georgia man nearly unconscious with a needle in his arm early Saturday morning, and over 50 vials of drugs inside his vehicle, police said.
About 3 a.m., Williamsburg Police Office Mike Taylor responded to a complaint about a male subject, who appeared to be passed out outside the Pilot Travel Center.
When Taylor got to the scene, he found Justin M. Hobbs, 27, of Rossville, Ga., almost passed out and injecting drugs into his arm with a syringe, said Williamsburg Police Sgt. Wayne Bird.
Taylor initially arrested Hobbs for public intoxication, and a subsequent search of the vehicle turned up more than 50 vials of various injectible narcotics, Bird said.
He was later charged with 56 counts of third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
“We don’t have any idea where they came from. The only thing that I do know is they came from either a doctor’s office or a hospital pharmacy,” Bird said.
“These are the type of injectibles that you can’t get at a regular pharmacy. We are working with the DEA right now to try and get them tracked down by lot number.”
Bird added that he doesn’t know if this is the most injectible drugs that the department has ever seized, but he said it’s the most he has ever seen.
Hobbs pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Monday afternoon before District Judge Dan Ballou scheduled a Jan. 8 pre-trial conference in the case, and appointed the public defender’s office to represent Hobbs.
