13th Region Tournament set
The 13th Region boys and girls tournaments were set Sunday at Bell County High School.
In the boys’ tournament, the Redhounds didn’t get the most favorable draw. The ‘Hounds (26-3) will play Harlan County (13-14) Friday night at 8:30 and will be in the same bracket with Knox Central (16-8). The Panthers will play North Laurel (12-17) at 6 p.m.
In the top bracket, Middlesboro (21-7) will kick off the tournament against Barbourville (15-12) at 6 p.m. while Clay County (19-12) will take on 50th district runner-up, South Laurel (21-8).
The first three nights will be split sessions with the gate opening at 5 p.m. for the first game. Tickets will not be sold for the second game until 7:45 p.m.
In the girls’ tournament, the Lady Redhounds drew Clay County, the tournament favorite right off the bat. Corbin will play Clay County the second game Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. Middlesboro and Knox Central will play in the first game Tuesday. The tournament opens Monday night with a inner-county battle between the South Laurel Lady Cardinals and the North Laurel Lady Jaguars. The two split in regular season games this season. Monday’s second game has matched Pineville against Harlan County at 7:30.
“I would rather play Clay County in the first game as the last game,” said Corbin Coach Jennifer Parsons. “We played them close at home and had chances to win. They ended up beating us by four. I didn’t have a preference coming into today. We will just prepare for them as we would anybody.”
