UPDATED BREAKING NEWS: Corbin High School student fatally injured in crash, two other victims in serious condition
An early morning accident that left traffic blocked for over three hours on KY 770 in north Corbin Wednesday has reportedly claimed of one of the victims.
Steven Lambdin, who was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Jonathan Goforth has succumbed to injuries suffered in the accident.
The accident happened around 7 a.m. on Kentucky 770 in Corbin. Few details have been released so far, but according to witnesses at the scene, three helicopters were called to the scene to transport all three victims to UK Hospital.
Officials say Goforth, 16, the driver of a 1997 Toyota Corolla, was eastbound and entered the westbound lane, attempting to pass another vehicle. Goforth was also believed to have life-threatening injuries.
Trosper said neither of the occupants of Goforth’s vehicle had used seat belts. The Goforth vehicle collided with a 1997 Ford I-150 truck driven by Carrie R. Smith, 38, of Lily. Smith is listed in serious condition.
Witnesses said that shortly after the accident, a Corbin High School football coach was on the scene and said that at least one of the victims was a player of his.
