Police looking for clues in Woodbine drive-by shooting
Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies are asking for the public’s help in identifying a possible drive-by shooting suspect.
Sheriff’s Detective Chuck Davis said so far there are no suspects and no motive has been determined for the shooting incident that happened Friday evening in Woodbine.
However, a Chevy king-cab pick-up truck was spotted leaving the area about the time of the shooting and police would like the public’s help in identifying it.
About 8:58 p.m., Davis said the victim, Gilbert M. Flores, 36, was sitting in his trailer at 73 Bottom Street watching television and heard some thuds, but assumed it was probably just neighborhood kids throwing rocks at the trailer.
Police recovered several of the bullets fired at a trailer on Bottom Road in Woodbine last Friday.
Flores got up, walked out of the trailer and saw what he thinks was a brown Chevy truck pulling away.
Davis said Flores didn’t think much about the truck until he walked to the side of the trailer and observed bullet holes in the front bedroom. Another seven bullet holes were found in the back of the trailer.
No one was injured during the shooting although several rounds penetrated inside the trailer. One bullet struck the rear of the television and another hit the stereo speaker in the floor. A total of 10 shots hit the trailer, Davis said.
Police recovered several .22 caliber slugs from the scene, and believe either a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol or rifle was used, he noted.
Flores told police he had no known enemies and didn’t owe anyone any money. No drug involvement is suspected, Davis said.
He said the brown truck may have tinted windows, and was last seen turning right onto Ky. 26.
Davis said the truck has chrome type bars along the side of it, and possibly some chrome bars in the bed of the truck.
There were apparently two people inside the truck at the time.
“It is still under investigation and we are looking for the pick-up truck. If anybody has any information about the vehicle, please contact me at 549-8117,” Davis said.
Sgt. Glen Bunch and Deputies Brett Reeves and E.J. Miller assisted with the investigation.
