UC goalkeeper honored
University of the Cumberlands junior goalkeeper Roland Day (North Port, FL) came in as the Patriots new starting goalkeeper. Day won the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Player of the Week Honor three weeks during the season: September 29th, October 13th, and October 21st. Day was also awarded MSC All-Conference Honors.
Throughout the season Day made 83 saves and only allowed 20 goals, the lowest of any other keeper in the MSC. His goals against average of 1.15 placed him 1st in the MSC. Day started in 18 games and played in 19 this season, playing over 1500 minutes.
On the Patriots Senior Day, Day was given the opportunity to play in the field. During the 10 minutes Day was on the field, he managed to score a goal; his first and last of the season, as that was his only opportunity to play on the field.
Day made many great saves throughout the season, but one game during the season made a big impact on the Patriots season. Day shut out the #2 ranked Lindsey Wilson College team in a 0-0 double overtime game to move the Patriots up in the rankings as well as keep them in the run for the MSC Championship. The Patriots went on to be the MSC Co-Champions with Lindsey Wilson due to that tie during the season.
The Patriots are preparing for next season to improve their record, ranking, and overall play. Day will be returning for another season with the Patriots and planning for another record breaking year.
