Bena Mae’s Kitchen: It’s Over. Get it?
Although I told myself I wouldn’t be writing about the 2008 election after November 4, I still have a couple of items in my bag that I would like to get off my chest.
For one, the TV and radio commentators just won’t let it go. Like the energy rabbit, they keep going and going and going with their predictions and analyses and 20/20 hindsight. They crowd the airwaves with their self-assumed knowledge of all things political, until we are forced to go to the cable channels to get away from them. TV Land and Discovery Channels have become our refuge.
So I say to them, Enough! Stifle! Your days in the spotlight are over. Go home. Get a hobby. Volunteer to deliver Meals on Wheels.
Even though there was not much to laugh at during the long and arduous campaign, there were a few bits of humor happening along the way. Like the race for senate in the state of Colorado where a man named Bacon won over a man named Fries. Choosing Bacon over Fries must have been a tasty decision, wouldn’t you say?
And another thing, how is it that owing to the crisis in the economy, I keep getting emails and telemarketing calls offering loans for ‘quick cash’ or help with paying off my mortgage. They come by the dozens along with credit card companies begging me to sign up for a credit card. I thought that money was tight. Sometimes it makes me wonder if I’ve fallen down a dark hole.
Then there’s this that makes me know I’ve fallen down a dark hole. It’s happening in Omaha, Nebraska where a man by the name of Ernie Chambers is suing God. But the court could throw the suit out because of failure to serve notice on God.
“What brought me to the point of filing this lawsuit was the ill-advised attempts by certain legislators to prevent the filing of certain lawsuits,” Chambers said.
The court told Chambers that his lawsuit may be dismissed because he had failed to serve notice on God. Chambers acknowledged that failure in court while sitting a few feet away from an empty table reserved for God and God’s attorney.
“Despite my most sincere, zealous efforts, I could not find a location to serve the defendant,” Chambers said, adding that if the court recognizes God, the deity wouldn’t need formal notice because he knows everything. And God would be at every hearing because He’s everywhere always.
As Andy would say, “Curious, very curious.”
