Shelby Valley 51, Mason Co. 44

Shelby Valley grabbed the lead on a Elisha Justice basket with 2:13 and the Wildcats hit 10 of 16 free throws in the last two minutes to knock off the defending state champion, Mason County, 51-44.

Mason County hit just two field goals in the final quarter, one came with 4:50 left in the game when Russ Middleton dropped his seventh three pointer of the night. But, the other didn’t come until the final :18 seconds left in the game.

Justice was four of four from the line in the final four minutes while Taylor Newsome was four of six.

Middleton finished the game with 24 points, Justice had 22 for Shelby Valley. The Wildcats won the battle of the boards, 43-26. Taylor Newsome had 11 rebounds to lead the Wildcats.

Good game. It was the first time a visiting team won.
