Holiday Tournaments continue
The holiday tournaments are back underway for our local teams. Of course the big one is right here in front of me at Corbin High School and the Cumberland Falls Invitational. Corbin whitewashed the South Floyd Raiders Saturday night, 100-38. Don’t you just love a team that scores a 100 points. The fans really like to see that 100th point put on the scoreboard and the honor went to Matthew Taylor on a three-pointer with thirty seconds left in the game.
Madison Johnson put on a show in the first half, scoring 22 of his game-high 30 points. The Redhounds will get a tougher test when they play Bell County tonight.
Lynn Camp lost to Bell County 83-72. Jonah Mitchell looked sharp, he was all over the floor and wasn’t a bit concerning about fouling out. He scored 18 in the loss and came back yesterday to score 18 in a 76-60 win over South Floyd. Tyler Waggener had the big game against the Raiders with 27 points.
Whitley County was at Harlan County and lost a nail-biter to Louisville Iroquois. I think the experience playing Jeffersontown and playing two national powers in Florida paid off for Chris Baker’s team. The Colonels were not a bit intimidated by the Raiders. I thought Whitley County was going to get blown out in the second quarter but came back in the second half.
Jamie Lebanion made some really nice moves to the basket. It was a well-played game by the Colonels.
The ladies get started today. Corbin and Whitley County are playing in the Mercer County Holiday Tournament while Williamsburg is in Berea at the Madison Southern Invitational. It’s good to see Williamsburg go up against some of the bigger schools in that tournament. This experience will only help the Lady Jackets. They play Grayson County tonight at 7:30, Mason County Tuesday at 2:30 and Garrard County later in the day at 7:00. I’m not sure i like to see teams playing two games a day, but we are seeing more and more of it.
