Man dies in accident on I-75 near Williamsburg Sunday
A late night accident near the 12 mile-marker of Interstate 75 left one man dead and traffic backed into the early morning hours Monday.
Police say an unidentified Tennessee man was traveling in the north-bound in a late model Dodge king cab pickup truck when he apparently lost control, sliding into the median and eventually coming to rest on the south bound
lane. A travel trailer, which was being pulled by the truck, lay in the median nearly disintegrated still attached to the truck.

Crews worked for several hours to clear the wreckage as south-bound traffic was diverted from I-75 exit 15 through Williamsburg. North-bound traffic moved slowly through the scene as one lane was opened for traffic about an hours after the accident.
Witnesses at the scene said the man was unresponsive when they approached the vehicle in an attempt to help him and anyone else in the vehicle. After further inspection, it was determined the man was traveling alone.
The driver of the truck is yet to be identified, but as soon as more information is made available, the News Journal will pass it along via our Website.
Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Lawson is investigating the crash. Assisting at the scene were Three-Point Fire Department, Williamsburg Fire and Rescue, Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, Kentucky State Police and Whitley County EMS.

Teri, I’d like to thank you for your e-mail during your time of grieving. I was a very good friend of Roger (nubs) as he is known by his close traveling brothers. I first met Roger at Browns Ferry Nuclear Powerhouse in 2005 where we spent most the year and I also met Jim tallent. Jim and Roger just worked in St. louis and I had worked with Roger this past summer at Maysville, Ky. and Charleston W.Va. Your brother had brought me into the computer world and was showing me the way through cyber space. I’ll always be greatful to him for his time and close friendship. I had spoke with Roger on April 6th about a trip my family was taking to the Western Caribbean and was returning April 13 that night. My wife was driving at the time because I was tried from the drive from Miami and said she saw the crash scene as we were heading home to Michigan Via I-75. Of coarse we had no idea it involved Roger. I’d like to send our family’s heart felt condolences and love to all of Rogers family, friends, and brothers who knew him as the “Olnubbyone”. Our prayers are with you Roger in heaven and hopefully I’ll see you down the road God willing.
” Peace to you my Brother”
wow, after reading this post i am filled with compassion for Rogers family and friends. i never knew roger but i know many like him. he like several others are a member of a brotherhood of wich i belong, the IBEW. He was also a member of an even more important Christian Brotherhood.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
I didn’t know Roger but I know his mother Gail and sister Kim and how much they Love and care about him and my heart and prayers go out to them as well as Teri. Seems he was a very loved person and I know he will be misssed.
I have had the priviledge of working with Roger on a few occasions. I met him in 2001 and I saw first hand how big his heart was, because he was a good union brother, and helped me when I was on the road. We spoke often on the phone and kept each other informed of the work situation.
I will miss his phone calls.
God bless Roger, and the whole family at this sad time and always.
Nub was my union brother and my best friend. He had lots of friends and he will be missed. We worked many jobs together and talked on the phone almost every day. We eat out weekly. I paid one week and Nub would pay the next week. We would take turns choosing where to eat. We always talked about retiring together someday. Nub talked a lot about his family–GC –Teri and Mike–his mother–his kids . I know he loved them. He always looked forward to going back to Knoxville to see GC. I Will Miss Him! I feel Nub will be resurrected one day and I look forward to seeing him again. Nub– WE LOVE YOU! jim & wanda tallent
My heart goes out to Rogers family, Momma Gail, Teri, and Kim. I remember Roger from way back in our younger days, when I practically lived with Kim and her family. He was always trying to start some mischief and would laugh so hard when he managed to accomplish a scream or yell from one of us girls. Roger loved to play, but he would fight tooth and nail to protect his sisters, he had a heart that was true and carried a lot of compassion for the people and things he cared about. I feel as if I have lost a brother as well, I just wish I had been able to stay in closer contact with all of the family, time has a way of slipping by fast. If you need anything Kim, Teri, and Gail, just let us know. My heart is with you as well as our prayers. Love you all.
David,
Thank you for writing and especially for stopping there that terrible night. My brother was the kind of man that would have done the same. As special as he was to us we are just now finding out how very specail he was to so many others. We know that he went quick and there was nothing any one could have done. I would be interested in knowing if you wittnessed the accident when it happend. If so could you please contact me at Bluenagi@aol.com God Bless you and your family
Robin, please dont do this here. Your comment’s are hurtful and offensive to everyone who knew Roger. We are greiving and all you are doing is tearing down the very thing you claim to want to build.
Being the mother of Roger’s children – Jessica and Daniel – for as much effort he gave to his IBEW brothers and his family, it is sad to know that the children will never know what effort was given to them or to be shown an effort to them or ever be able to listen to the sound of his voice again. I had always wished for him and his whole family to accept the kids, to stay in touch through the years and this time if something is said about keeping in touch with them that it will be genuine. I know everyone has stories of Roger that the kids will need to hear so they can build on the memories of him they already have. I wish they would have come to Jessica’s wedding when she invited Roger, Gail, Kim, Teri & Mike, that would have been the effort she was looking for on one of the most important and happiest days of her life. Now it is too late for effort on Roger’s part and that makes me very sad. Life is short – live life every day like it is your last and this lesson learned is don’t let regrets get in the way of why family doesn’t talk as much as they should – put aside the differences for once and step up. They really need you now because they have lost their blood – His heart and soul – they will never know again on this earth. Don’t dissapoint. Photos, stories and learning what their father was like is most important to them. rcc1965@hotmail.com
Just wanting to say how sorry we are to the family of Rodger. Met Rodger through his uncle G.C and I can say that Rodger was layed back and loved what he did through his trade through his brothers of IBEW. And being one of those brothers you know he was liked and had number of friends through out the many states he work at through the years. I didn’t know what to say when G.C. called and told us about the accident an if I would take him to Kentucky on Monday which he knew that I would. But between both of us I think that we both did good. G.C. and Joann and Rodgers Family again we are sorry for the lost loved one.G.C. and Joanne we love you both.
well !!!
guess Im going to write something now, thought I might wait a while longer, but the phone calls that come in on nubs phone is just un-believeable, how much nub was loved as a person and and IBEW member. Friends have called from all over the united states telling me how much he ment to them as a friend and as a co-worker. The stories I have heard in the past few days are un-believeable , as to how much he cared for the IBEW and his co-workers. Roger was a person that lived a very simple life so he could help other people, such as his family, co-workers and even myself. He was my nephew, my son, my brother, and my very best friend.
His death, I believe, I will never overcome!!!
We love and miss you more than you or anyone could ever know
g.c. and joann
Roger Cross was my best friend. He was on his way to KY to help on my mom’s house, she is 85 years old and loved Roger. He was always there for friend or stranger, didn’t matter to Rog. I wish that Jessica and Daniel could have known the Dad that he was when they were very young. He carried with him a very, heavy heart. I loved my friend very much.
I am so sorry for the family of this man. I was one of the first few on the scene before ems or the police. My heart goes out to the family. I am glad to have read in other comments that he was a christian. May he rest in peace. Love and prayers for the family.
We have such fond memories of growing up with our cousins Roger, Teri and Kimberly. Haven’t connected in recent years with Roger, but we will cherish our memories of him. Our love and prayers are with Gail, Teri and Kimberly.
We are thankful for the wonderful visit we had with our nephew Rogert recently. He was such a joy – such a good person. We will surely miss him.
Roger was a great person and a person I am so blessed to have known. My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends in this time. His family lost a wonderful man and the IBEW lost a great brother.
Roger is my father. Although we weren’t as close as I wish we were. I still love and care for him, as well as the rest of the family. Daniel( my brother) and I are just trying to cope and come to terms with everything as hard as that is right now.
Sending my prayers to the family, Roger was a special member of Local Union 760, which I have known every since he became a member.

I had the priveledge to know Roger for many years. He was a great person and will be missed by many people. I remember him as always having a smile on his face. He is now in the hands of God and Jesus and will be in our memories forever. Our prayers our with you Gail, Teri and Kim.
Roger was my first cousin. Although life’s circumstances separated us at an early age, I had memories of Roger all through my life. We were reaquainted two years ago at our grandmother’s funeral. I am so thankful for the time we got to spend together. My prayers are with you Teri, Kim and Gail.
Sadness overcomes our hearts as we remember our cousin. We send love and prayers to our family as they face this time of sorrow.
We are thankful for the recent time he spent with his family and a call shared between cousins.
Rest in Peace Roger…..
Our Deepest sympathies to your Mom and Sisters..
I was one of the first on the scene as I was traveling back from Indiana. We were there before any EMS or Rescue teams were there. I wish there had been something I could have done. We are praying for the family. My heart goes out to you guys.

The last words I heard from my only son was “I love you Mom”. On Easter Day he rose upward to God just like another son we all know and love. This IBEW Brother of 20+ years can lay his tool pouch aside and rest at last.
This was also my brother. I love him dearly and will miss him very much. He was on his way to help the mother of his closest friend. That is just how big his heart is. Roger….we will always love you and hold you in our hearts.
He is loved by his Uncle Ray and Aunt Robyn, 1st cousins J.R. and Michael, Step 1st cousin Jessie, 2nd cousins Austin and Noah.
This was my brother…….my heart is broken.
Terrible story but I love your alls new web sight.
