Lynn Camp High School evacuated after student crashes into school
This Ford Bronco, driven by Brandon Cawood of East Bernstadt, crashed into the side of Lynn Camp High School Friday afternoon, causing a temporary evacuation of students at the school. Barbourville Police are investigating the incident.
An accident at Lynn Camp High School forced the temporary evacuation of some students while officials deemed whether the building was safe to occupy or not.
Barbourville Police Officer Sherman Lawson said a 1985 Ford Bronco II, driven by Brandon Cawood, of East Bernstadt, struck a wall at the school after the driver of the vehicle lost control when the brakes allegedly failed on the vehicle.
Lawson said no one was injured in the accident, but officials and police officers on the scene removed students from the area until it was determined to be safe.
Cawood was picking up his girlfriend from school at the time of the incident, which happened just before school was dismissed for the day. As for criminal charges, Lawson said none were filed at this time, but he was confident some type of violation may have occurred.
"I am sure there was some reckless driving involved and that speed was a factor, but I didn’t see it," Lawson said. "You have to see it to be able to press charges.
"As far as insurance and stuff like that, everything seemed to be in order," he added.
The wall of the school is visibly damaged, the after effects of the crash.
