Men caught trying to sell drugs to detective
A Georgia man and a South Carolina man are being held in the Whitley County Detention Center in lieu of $25,000 cash bonds on charges they allegedly tried to sell drugs to an undercover detective Wednesday.
Kentucky State Police Detective David Lassiter charged Joseph P. Walton, 30, of North Augusta, S.C., with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
Lassiter charged Cameron T. Goetting, 33, of Lawrenceville, Ga., with two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and one count of second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
Lassiter arrested the pair about 12:40 p.m. in a 1992 green Mitsubishi with Georgia tags on Ky. 92E in the city limits of Williamsburg.
Walton allegedly made several phone calls arranging the sale of three ounces of methamphetamine to an undercover detective, then arrived in Whitley County with another person with about three ounces of methamphetamine, according to his arrest citation.
"Suspect was Mirandized and admitted to arranging the sale of meth in Williamsburg," Lassiter wrote on the arrest citation.
Goetting allegedly had suspected crack cocaine hidden in his vehicle, according to his arrest citation.
"Suspect had multiple ounces of suspected methamphetamine hidden in a box under a vehicle he drove into Whitley County in order to sell to an undercover officer," Lassiter wrote on the arrest citation. "Suspect had X.T.C. hidden inside a box under the suspect vehicle."
Judge Jason Price entered not guilty pleas on their behalves during their arraignments Thursday in Whitley District Court.
Price appointed the public advocates office to represent both men, and scheduled May 11 preliminary hearings in their cases.
