The second week of action in the Williamsburg Softball League began Monday night with Hollywood Video rolling past Maiden Drug, 15-4.
The league began its summer season under the direction of new Williamsburg Softball Director David Richardson who replaced the long-time legend Gino Mosley.
In Monday’s first game, Hollywood Video jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back. The winners added four runs in the top of the second for a 10-0 lead. Maiden Drug got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second but was never able to get back in the game.
Jordan Brown led the winners, going four for four at the plate with four RBI’s in the win. Ryan Davenport was three of four while Kris Strebeck hit a two-run homer and finished two of three at the plate.
The winners had a big first inning as Davenport, Brandon Hensley, Brown, Tyler Lee, Strebeck and Tyler Hendrickson all scored to go ahead 6-0.
In the second game of the night, Maiden Drug came back and turned the tables on RBI, winning 18-3.
Shawn Jackson, James Huffman and Brandon Prewitt scored in the top of the first to put RBI ahead, 3-0. Runs by Trey Jarboe and Jordan Singleton saw Maiden Drug pull within one (3-2) at the end of the first inning.
The game stayed close until the bottom of the third when Maiden Drug scored 14 runs to take a huge lead in the game. They added two runs in the bottom of the fourth to close out the win by the 15-run mercy rule.
Jarboe led the way with five RBI’s and was perfect at the plate in four trips. Singleton was three of four while Mark Petrey was three for three.
Matt Singleton hit a walk-off three-run homer to help Croley Funeral Home end his team’s win over Hollywood Video by the mercy rule, 22-12.
There were plenty of fireworks in this game as Singleton had nine RBI’s in the win. Hollywood Video took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but nine runs in the home half of the first made it 9-4.
The eventual winners moved ahead 17-6 before Tyler Hendrickson hit a three-run shot over the center field fence to extend the game. Croley led at the end of five innings, 19-11.
Hollywood Video added a run in the top of the sixth but Singleton’s home run ended the game. He was four of five at the plate while Mike Maxey was perfect in his four trips to home plate.
Randy Crider led Hollywood Video, going three of four.
Total Fitness won the fourth game, 22-12 over RBI. Bill Creekmore (five of five), Roger Prewitt (four of five) and Scotty Prewitt (four of four) provided the power for the winners.
In a late-night make-up game, there were 59 runs scored by Croley Funeral Home and Total Fitness as the two battled for first place in the league standings.
When the dust had settled and the clock was reaching mid-night, Croley Funeral Home came away with a 35-24 victory.
Rocky Moses smacked in 10 runs to lead his team to the win. Moses and Jeremy Taylor were four of five at the plate.
