SPEEDWAY FIRST

With the feature field set by point standings, Jessica Norman of Rockholds made the best of drawing the pole position and led all the way to win the Mitchell Foods Mini-Slammer Series feature at Corbin Speedway on Saturday evening, May 30.
In doing so, she became the first female driver to post a main event win in a regular point series at Corbin.
In the last few laps of the 20-lap main event for the 16-and-under drivers, she had to hold off the previous week’s winner, Joseph Knuckles of Corbin.
In the post-race interview, the 14-year-old commented, “A girl’s no better than a guy. I think I can keep it pointed in the right direction. I just give it all I have, and I have to thank the guys that work on my car.”
Knuckles reflected, “I gave mine all it’s got, too. That’s the only way to race, clean.”
Norman was driving the Smith Farms Honda CRX No. 63, with Knuckles’ second place coming in the Southeast Medical Ford Escort No. 20.
Placing third was Derrick Robinson of Barbourville and his Wagers Auto Parts Saturn No. 0, with Jason Brandenburg of Williamsburg fourth in the Bandit Speed Shop Dodge Neon No. 95 Jr., and Brandon Tussey of Lily getting fifth in the Bandit Speed Shop Dodge Neon No. 22.
Finishing out the feature order were Jordan Martin of Corbin driving the Felts Music Place Plymouth Breeze No. 77, Abby Lambert of Williamsburg and her Lambert Racing Cavalier No. 8, and Nathaniel Harrison of Lily and his Bandit Speed Shop No. 9.
Norman was also the winner of the four-lap trophy dash.
