BASEBALL ALL-STAR

 The annual East-West Kentucky High School Baseball All-Star Games will be played at the University of Kentucky this weekend and several local players and coaches will take part in the event.

Whitley County’s Ted Clifford has been invited to play in the oldest high school all-star game in the state.

“I really don’t know much about it,” said Clifford, who said he was excited to be representing the 13^th Region along with South Laurel’s Ryan Woody, Bell County’s Spencer Greer and Bell County’s Robby Slusher.

“Coach (John) Smith called and told me about it and asked if I would like to play in it,” said Clifford, who has signed with the University of the Cumberlands. “I think it will be fun to play in and something I will remember for the rest of my life.”

“It makes feel like this is a privilege and all of my hard work has paid off,” said Clifford about is selection to the East All-Stars. “My coaches did a good job getting me where I need to be to play in the next level. This will be a good opportunity for me to show what I have gained from high school.”

Clifford, who has been working for his dad’s moving company while preparing for his first year of college baseball said. “I’ve been hitting the weights hard, running, staying in shape and throwing the ball to keep my shoulders in shape. I am trying to get stronger by lifting weights.”

Clifford’s team will play Sunday at 1 & 4 p.m. against the West Senior All-Stars.
