Ledington selected as Corbin baseball coach
The search for a new head baseball coach at Corbin High School is over and as some expected, a familiar face will be taking over the reigns for the Redhounds.
Former Corbin assistant coach Rob Ledington has been tagged as the man to follow in Jeff Garmon’s footsteps. Garmon resigned from the position less than two weeks ago.
Ledington said Wednesday afternoon that he is more than just excited about the new position.
“I am excited, but I am more than excited,” Ledington said. “I am blessed to have this opportunity and I am very grateful to be given this chance.
“I know a lot of people say that these days, but I really mean it,” he added.
Ledington said taking the job was about more than just baseball, considering he spent the past two seasons in separate school districts than his children.
“First of all, Corbin is one of the best school districts in the state of Kentucky,” he said. “Now, I get to spend more time with my family because my kids go here and I get to watch them play sports and excel in academics.
“As for Corbin athletics, I don’t care what sport you are in, you have to be honored to be given the chance to coach in this program,” he added.
Corbin High School Athletic Director Gerald Foley confirmed the move and said even though there were a number of quality candidates, he felt like Ledington was the right man for the job for several reasons.
“We had some good applicants for this job and I feel any of them would have been a good choice,” Foley said. “Rob has some great experience, and not only as a high school coach, because he was head coach at Sue Bennett college for a while as well.
“He has been around baseball for a long time and has a real knowledge for the game,” he added. “He is an experienced and proven winner and hopefully that will continue.”
Ledington was an assistant at Corbin before leaving to take over the baseball program at Bell County in 2008. In his one season there,
Ledington¹s squad finished 26-15 overall, while going 17-6 in region play and 9-1 against district foes. The Bobcats won the district and region titles, but fell to Lawerence County in the Semi-State 7.
Last year, Ledington was tagged as head coach at Whitley County High School after basically switching places with then Colonels coach John Smith, who went to Bell County.
In 2009, Ledington¹s Colonels were 14-12 overall with an 11-6 mark against 13th Region opponents and a 4-3 record in 50th District play. Whitley County lost to Corbin in the first round of the district tournament.
Ledington is expected to carry on the winning ways of past coaches in the Redhound program and Foley said he has confidence that he will be able to do so.
“We have a lot of pride in this program and we really feel like Rob will carry on that tradition,” Foley said. “I think the program will continue to be good and they may eventually surpass some of the past milestones.”

Whitley County DID NOT beat Corbin in the 50th District Tournament this year and DID NOT even play in the region tournament either.
