News Journal to expand publication of health inspections
In the same fashion News Journal readers have come accustom to, the News Journal is once again leading the way in providing its readers with the more information than any other local news source.
Starting this week, you will now be able to get restaurant inspection scores from Knox, Laurel and Whitley County on our stats page on a regular basis. Previously, the News Journal had been providing the scores from the Whitley County inspections alone, but thanks to some legwork and determination by reporters, accompanied with the cooperation of the three area health departments, the scores along with remarks pertaining to each inspection will be available in our newspaper.
News Journal Publisher Don Estep said this move is just another example of how his paper continues to set the bar high when it comes to local coverage. Adding that the public has a right to know how local businesses are treating the customers behind the scenes.
"The public has a right to know, therefore the News Journal is doing its duty by providing the information," he said. "We feel like we lead the way in providing local information that effects peoples’ lives."
Estep said he not only is pleased to see the inspections in the paper as the publisher, but he also looks at them on a regular basis.
"As a reader myself, I appreciate knowing which places of business are responsible with the trust they are given and treat the public the way they should be treated," he added.
Estep said he hopes and expects his employees to continue to provide the kind of information the readers deserve on a weekly basis in print and daily on the newspaper’s Website (www.thenewsjournal.net).
"The News Journal has always been the leader in keeping the public informed in the things that effect them," Estep said. "We were the first paper to present full color in this area and we have become No. 1 in circulation through the years.
"As a result, we feel like we have done things that the public has liked, which is why we have been so successful," he added. "Our internet site has also been an extension of the services we provide and we hope to keep doing that for a long time."
