Williamsburg police make large bootleg bust Tuesday

Williamsburg police seized 1,836 cans of beer, 53 bottles of liquor and a small amount of cash while executing a search warrant on Lee Price Road Tuesday afternoon and arrested four people.

Williamsburg Public Affairs Officer Shawn Jackson said that about 5 p.m., officers executed a search warrant at Keith "Junior" Osborne’s residence.

"The police department had received complaints about the illegal sale of alcoholic beverages in that area. We made an undercover buy using a cooperating source and obtained a search warrant," Jackson said.

"We executed the search warrant and recovered a substantial amount of alcoholic beverages."

Police charged Osborne, 51, with illegal sale of alcoholic beverages in a dry option territory.

Jackson said police were in the process of securing the scene when a vehicle pulled up to the residence right to the police cars with a large amount of alcohol inside.

"The driver stated that he was working for Mr. Osborne trying to make a quick $50 and had been to Richmond to bring a load back," Jackson said.

Police charged the driver, Chris Hall, 28 and his companion, Jessica Johnson, 22, both of Williamsburg, with illegal transportation/delivery of alcoholic beverages in a dry option territory.

"While we were there getting ready to leave, another vehicle came up," Jackson said. "We believe he was just there to purchase some alcoholic beverage."

Police charged Tim Rainwater, 41, of Williamsburg, with driving on a DUI suspended license and no insurance.
All were arrested without incident and were very cooperative with police, Jackson added. Police lodged all four in the Whitley County Detention Center.

Detective Bobby Freeman is continuing the investigation.

Chief Wayne Bird, Jackson, Lt. Jason Caddell, K-9 Officer Brandon Prewitt, and Officer Jim Pool assisted with the investigation.
