For fans wanting to see the Bluegrass Stallions play an American Basketball Association team their chance has come. The ARENA will host three upcoming games.
When CEO Tony Chase announced the formation of the professional basketball team he said there were possibilities that they would play at different locations around the state with Corbin and THE ARENA being one of those sites.
“We are excited to bring this fast paced, high scoring brand of basketball to the outstanding fans in Corbin, said Chase, CEO of the Bluegrass Stallions. “Between the great basketball, beautiful dance team and other in-game promotions, this will be an event the entire family can enjoy.”
The Stallions will play the Chicago Steam at 3 p.m., Jan. 24; the Music City Stars at 3 p.m. Feb. 14 and the Mississippi Blues at 7 p.m. Feb. 25.
Cliff Clinger, THE ARENA manger said. “We’re excited about getting the Stallions here. They really wanted to come. It’s an opportunity to showcase THE ARENA as a basketball venue.”
“Everyone will get to see how it flows and works,” added Clinger.
The first game will be exciting due to the fanfare of the University of Kentucky Alumni on the Bluegrass Stallions team and their notoriety in the region. Head Coach Kyle Macy will be bringing UK’s Bobby Perry, Lukasz Orbzut, Ravi Moss and Wayne Turner, as well as University of the Cumberlands standout Luke Fitzgerald.
“The UK connection, the coach (Kyle Macy) and the players, will big hit with area fans,” he added.
The Stallions started the season with their home court being at the Kentucky Horse Park, but Chase said he had to make a difficult decision to move the team out of the Georgetown facility. He issued this statement on the Stallions website:
“I had to make a difficult decision regarding the venue in which we will play to complete our home schedule. It was not financially viable for us to continue play in the Indoor Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park. We have a commitment from The Arena in Corbin to play a couple games there and are seeking a viable venue to play some games in Lexington. We are looking at all options to take care of anyone who has purchased tickets to any of the remaining games, including adding some home games to make up for it. In the event that a season ticket holder is not 100% accommodated, there will be refunds and/or other options available to fulfill your investment in our team. We won’t leave anyone “holding the bag”. Stay tuned over the next few days as we reach a logical conclusion as to where we will play,” wrote Chase.
The Stallions (8-6) defeated the Louisville Crusaders 129-60 Sunday as Justin Taylor (Georgetown College) tossed in 22 points while Jason McLeish (EKU) added 20 points. Former University of the Cumberlands standout Luke Fitzgerald has a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in 26 minutes of action.
The Bluegrass Stallions play in the South Central Division with the Kentucky Bisons, East Kentucky Miners, Smoky Mountain Jam, St. Louis Stunners and West Virginia Blazers.
The Stallions are currently 11th in the ABA standings behind the division leading Kentucky Bison. The Music City Stars, which is owned by Chase, are currently the ABA’s number one team.
