ALL ‘A’ CLASSIC
The 2010 All “A” Classic got underway this morning with one big shocker, Glasgow beating Campbellsville 65-59. The Eagles came into the tournament as one of the teams expected to make the semifinals. The Scotties, one of the larger teams in the field of 16 proved to be too much for the Eagles.
Walton Verona the 10th region champions defeated Louisville Brown as expected, but the game was much closer than I thought it would be.
Game three proved to be the most exciting of the first three games as Louisville DeSales pulled off a 60-57 win over Newport. The Wildcats of Newport came in to the tournament with a 17-3 record, the most wins by any Class A tournament team.
The final game of the first session saw a thriller by the Bishop Brossart Mustangs and the Hazard Bulldogs. The game was a nail-biter down to the wire. Hazard took a six-point lead late in the game, but Brossart came back to tie in the last ten seconds. Hazard went up by two on a B.J. Combs basket, but Brossart had a chance to win the game at the horn. The shot missed everything.
Thus far, good games, small crowds.
Tonight University Heights will play Lexington Christian, Owensboro Catholic vs. Ashland Fairview, Shelby Valley will take on Ballard Memorial and the Yellow Jackets of Williamsburg plays 12th Region champion, Danville.
