REDHOUNDS REBOUND
‘Hounds Rebound
The Corbin Redhounds rebounded from their Tuesday night loss to McCreary Central. The Redhounds lost on the road, but didn’t play one of their best games. Give credit to the McCreary Central defense and the outstanding performance of senior Aaron Watts.
This is one of those game that if the two played in Corbin, I’d expect the Redhounds to win. A neutral site would definitely by a toss-up.
Louisville DeSales came to town Friday night for a weekend trip to the mountains of southeastern Kentucky. DeSales fought its way to a runner-up finish in the All “A” State earlier this month, losing to Shelby Valley, 46-37. The Colts gave Shelby Valley all they wanted but had trouble hitting the three-ball.
They also had trouble hitting the long ball against Corbin in a 67-62 loss to the Redhounds. Big man, Aaron Manns had 12 of the first 14 points and was the spark the ‘Hounds needed in running out to the early lead. Seniors Madison Johnson and Isaac Wilson continue to play well. Both were in double figures once again. DeSales to be a tougher opponent than I expected, but the Courier Journal was right on the money with Corbin just a 4-point favorite.
Whitley wins three-of-four
The Whitley County Colonels have won three of their last four games after beating the Magoffin County Hornets in the Riverside Classic Friday night, 76-62. Whitley County has beaten Middlesboro (74-50), Bell County (54-51). The only loss in that series was Knox Central in Barbourville, 54-51.
They continued to have balanced scoring, so it’s hard to key on just one or two players. Jordan Akins, Shawn Harris and Jamie Lebanion played well against the Hornets.
