Williamsburg police arrest three fugitives in six-day period
Over the course of six days, Williamsburg police have helped apprehend three fugitives, including two people, who were arrested Sunday within 19 hours of each other.
About 2:02 a.m. Sunday, Officer Brandon White charged Chuckie D. Elkins, 36, of 127 Crisp Court, Williamsburg, with reckless driving, operating on a suspended or revoked operators license, and for being a fugitive from the state of Tennessee.
White observed Elkins driving north on I-75, and almost hit a road sign while driving at a high rate of speed that almost caused him to wreck several times, according to his arrest citation.
A criminal background check revealed that Elkins was wanted in Campbell County for fleeing police and reckless endangerment, according to court documents.
Shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, White also arrested Teresa G. Irwin, 37, also of 127 Crisp Court, at her residence for also being a fugitive from Campbell County, Tenn., according to her arrest citation.
Court documents didn’t indicate what Irwin was wanted for.
Elkins and Irvin agreed to waive extradition back to Tennessee during their arraignment Monday morning in Whitley District Court.
Elkins also pleaded guilty to the reckless driving and driving on a suspended license. Price sentenced him to a 90-day jail sentence that was probated for two years, a $100 fine, and $163 court costs.
On March 23, Williamsburg police and Kentucky State Police ended a nearly month long search for a wanted man, and arrested two people.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Les Moses charged Tony G. Petrey, 37, of Canadatown, with probation violation.
Moses also charged Petrey’s companion, Cassie M. Tolliver, 19, of Williamsburg, with second-degree hindering prosecution/apprehension.
Williamsburg Public Affairs Officer Shawn Jackson received a tip on March 23 about a subject residing in Williamsburg that was possibly wanted for felony parole violation and other charges.
"The Williamsburg Police Department and Troopers from the Kentucky State Police Post 11 have been working together over the last four weeks to located the wanted suspect," Jackson said.
Moses, Williamsburg Assistant Police Chief Rick Mosley and several other Williamsburg officers went to the Mount Morgan Apartments, and found a vehicle matching the description of Petrey’s vehicle, Jackson said in a press release.
Officers went to the residence, which was rented by Tolliver, and found Petrey inside, Jackson noted.
Tolliver had Petrey inside her residence, knew he was wanted, and refused to open the door for police for about 40 minutes, according to her arrest citation.
"I really didn’t know who it was," she told the judge during her arraignment.
Moses arrested both without incident and lodged them in the Whitley County Detention Center.
Petrey has other felony charges pending from a Canadatown incident last month where he fled from police, according to the press release.
Petrey pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of first-degree wanton endangerment and first-degree fleeing or evading police.
Price scheduled an April 5 preliminary hearing in his case, but declined to set a bond since Petrey was also charged with violating his parole.
Tolliver pleaded not guilty during her arraignment, and Price scheduled an April 17 pre-trial conference in her case.
Officers taking part in the Petrey investigation included: Moses, Mosley, K-9 Officer Brandon Prewitt, K-9 "Rico", and Officers Jim Pool and Jason Strunk.
