Corbin receives $265,00 for flood control project on Bacon Creek Road
In response to a series of recurring flood issues throughout southeastern Kentucky, U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers, R-Ky., secured $2.18 million in federal funding to reduce the potential for and/or scope of flooding in six areas including Corbin.
Corbin will receive $265,000 to improve drainage on Bacon Creek Road near Heritage and Corbin nursing homes. On May 2, heavy rains led to flash flooding in the area, which closed Bacon Creek Road. As a result, authorities had no way to respond to the facilities in the event of an emergency and employees and residents were trapped at the facilities for several days.
"The devastating storms that ripped through Kentucky nearly two weeks ago, left behind a grim reminder of the importance of not only creating, but maintaining flood control projects," Rogers said.
The bulk of the funding, $870,643.96, will go to add stream and rain sensors throughout Eastern Kentucky. Rogers noted these sensors serve as an early-warning system for communities in the path of water.
"These funds are vital to communities that otherwise cannot afford to meet the costs of repairs, replacements and various compliance issues for flood protection."

Where was all this funding and help when it flooded everytime it rained in south Corbin. Where was the help back then for those families every year. Now the city of Corbin has interest in the property below Whayne Supply now that the prominent people is this town has shown an interest in having businesses there. What a joke after all these years. Most of those people are dead now and nobody showed any interest in those families.
