Corbin Police searching for man who ran off following traffic stop
Corbin Police are searching for a man they say ran off after he was stopped him for traffic violations.
Capt. Rob Jones, public affairs officer, said about 5 p.m. Friday, Officer Kirk Mays stopped Michael David Ellis, 33, at the intersection of 6th and Sycamore streets. Ellis then fled the scene on foot.
Mays and K-9 Officer Tim Baker gave chase, crossing several different streets and through a number of yards. However, Ellis was able to escape.
Jones said a background check indicated Ellis is wanted by the Kentucky Department of Probation and Parole on felony theft warrants in Whitley and McCreary counties.
Jones added Ellis is listed as a fugitive in the N.C.I.C. (National Crime Information Center) computer to be held without bond and to be extradited back to Kentucky from anywhere in the U.S. In addition, Ellis is listed as assaultive and a flight risk.
Anyone with information about Ellis is asked to contact Corbin Police, 528-1122.
