Corbin man accused of knocking out six-year-old’s teeth

Elton Wayne Spurin was arrested Sunday night for allegedly hitting a 6-year-old in the mouth, resulting in the child loosing two teeth.
Corbin Police Officer Tim Baker said he was called to a home on 17th Street about 8:30 p.m. where Spurin, 25, of Corbin, was allegedly outside fighting with his brother in law, James Perkins. Baker said he didn’t know what had led to the fight.
"At some point during the fight, the boy said he got hit by Spurin," Baker said.
According to the warrant, Spurin struck the child hard enough that he had to be taken to the emergency room at Baptist Regional Medical Center.
"He had two teeth knocked loose," Baker said of the child. "He had to have them removed at the dentist and may lose a third."
Baker said Spurin fled from the scene before police arrived. After taking statements from witnesses, Baker secured an arrest warrant for Spurin.
Just after 11 p.m. Sunday, Baker found Spurin at Corbin Manor Apartments and took him into custody without incident.
"A Laurel County Sheriff’s deputy was with me because it was in Laurel County," Baker said. "When Spurin got out of his car, the deputy approached him and held him in custody until I got there."
Spurin was charged with one count of second-degree assault. At his arraignment Tuesday in Whitley District Court, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Whitley County Detention Center website indicated Spurin was still incarcerated on a $15,000 cash bond.

i am a friend of the 6 year old’s family and i was called to the occasion by a nother friend of thiers. the six year old has multiple stitches in his face because after wayne hit him and the police was called a dog smelled the blood and attacked the boy, waynes wife called the night of the arrest and said that he didnt do it. but the doctors knew he did it because a dog can’t knock out teeth like that. wane is lucky none of the family’s friends found him before the police got him. he is a coward and anyone else who would hit a child is too!

It’s easy to punch a 6 year old. Why don’t he try one time to punch me ? Because that would be his last mistake. You are nothing but a coward Wayne.
