Man who doused woman with gasoline and threatened to set her on fire gets 18-year sentence
Rather than stand trial for allegedly kidnapping a woman, dousing her with gasoline and threatening to set her on fire in 2009, a Williamsburg man instead took a plea bargain Wednesday that calls for a nearly two decade long prison sentence.
William Joseph Young, 32, of 1020 Buck Creek Road, was indicted one year ago for first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault, kidnapping, first-degree sexual abuse and criminal attempt to commit murder.
He pled guilty Wednesday afternoon to kidnapping in exchange for prosecutors dropping the remainder of charges and recommending an 18-year prison sentence.
The incident involving the kidnapping allegedly happened around midnight on June 24, 2009.
The victim told police that Young came to her home, assaulted her outside it, then forced her into the car and drove to Dal Road where he attempted to rape her, according to the arrest citation.
The victim also told police that Young poured gasoline on her and "threatened to set her on fire," police wrote in the citation.

Helman, murder is murder. There isn’t that much of a difference. Look now at the Anderson brothers. They killed a man in cold blood and will serve 12 years. Murder doesn’t carry a serious enough punishment in this area. I understand that sometimes things happen and murder is commited on accident or in self defense, but every murder in Whitley county can’t fall under those guidelines. These men, in the cases that I already mentioned, need to pay for their crimes. You wouldn’t feel so kindly towards these murderers if they killed someone in your family in cold blood, and no I am not related to any of the victims but I do have sympathy for their families. God bless the people who have had a loved one taken from them!
Helman is right, but I do understand what Shelly means. Where is the justice in this state for other, more serious offenses. I was a kidnapped and assaulted and the man that done this to me was arrested for it and for felony resisting arrest and giving an officer a false name /or address. He will be out of the Whitley Co. Det. Center on July 25,2010 a free man on an ankle bracelet. Heck, the jail already mistakenly let him out on July 9,2010.Was I notified? No.And then it took 5 days just for the people in this town to locate him and put him back in. 30 days in jail and 30 days of home incarceration,THAT’S IT. All of this happened to me on June 19,2010. But this was not his first time assaulting me.This man has stabbed me,beat me until my face was so bloody and bruised that my own mother didn’t recognize me,hit me with crutches and metal poles, had to get dye ran through my head because the Dr.’s thought I had bleeding in my brain,he caused a hematoma in my leg and I have that muscle bleeding for life now.He has ran my legs over with his truck, dragged me with the truck, pointed a gun at me,torn my ACL ligament in my left leg, caused a herniated disc in my neck and I was put in a cervical collar. And what does he get?30 days in jail. He has already violated his ankle bracelet when the jail mistakenly let him out.And then the jail said he don’t have to go infront of the judge for his new charge but instead told me he is being released on July 25 with none other than an ankle bracelet again. I can’t even get a newspaper to tell this story,or a reporter or news crew to air it. How many mistakes does 1 jail have to make before the media or a judge or justice is even involved? The jail made 2 other mistakes reguarding him since he’s been there and nobody wants to help me keep his butt in there. I am tired of running and tired of being a victim of this man and I am here to stand my ground because no woman deserves this crap.
Shelly every case is different so you really can’t compare.
I agree with Shelly. And Christopher Brewer who along with his girlfriend Rachel Poole were indicted three years ago and have yet to go to trial. THeir crimes? 16 counts of drug offenses to include: trafficking, possesion of script blanks, and other charges. He is one of the biggest scam/con artists to come into Corbin in years. HE has two federal lawsuits against the Whitley and Laurel county Sheriff’s. His family is nuts and Rachel use to be a stripper. And their buddy Hibbard is also a drug dealer who works at Chaney Lumber in Lily.
Why is it that he got a recommended sentence of 18 years when Anthony Damron killed a man and is running free. And Larry Wilson killed a man in front of everyone and will serve less than 8 years…..our system is set up all wrong.
It is clear this man suffers from some mental problems. Hopefully they don’t just throw him in jail forever but also provide him with mental counseling and a good wholesome atmosphere so that when he gets out he doesn’t act like this again. I think our prisons need to be more warm and friendly for people like this.
