Lynn Camp running back Clinton Jackson had one of those games he will be able to brag about for years to come Friday night when he led the Wildcats to a 41-21 victory over the homestanding Harlan Green Dragons.
It was the first win of the season for the Wildcats, who go into district play this week at Campbellsville.
Jackson rushed the football for 250 yards, three touchdowns on 27 carries.
Jackson got his Wildcats off to a quick start as he scored on the third play of the game on a 32-yard run.
After forcing the Dragons to a three-and-out, Jackson took over for the ‘Cats. He scored on a 25-yard run that capped a 75-yard drive. Jackson had six carries in the series. Jackson even followed with a two-point conversion that put the Wildcats ahead, 14-0.
“This is the first game that he has gone full speed,” said Lynn Camp Coach David Mitchell. “He is a talented kid.”
Quarterback Nathan Black and Hunter Medlin got in on the scoring act in the second quarter when they hooked up for a 17-yard pass play for a touchdown. Andrew Mills added the extra point and Lynn Camp was ahead 21-0 with just over seven minutes left in the half.
Harlan (1-4) got in on the fight when they put together a 62-yard drive. Sophomore quarterback Ty Saragas connected with David Allen on an eight-yard strike for the touchdown. Lynn Camp blocked the extra point kick, but Harlan’s Eric Young took the loose ball into the end zone for the two-points. Harlan had cut the lead to 21-8.
Lynn Camp (1-4) tacked on another touchdown just before the half when Black, a sophomore, scored on a 20-yard run with 1:38 left in the half. Mills made it 28-8 with the PAT.
The Dragons put together a quick 62-play drive and scored with just four seconds left when Saragas hit Allen on a seven-yard pass. Young added the PAT, but it was Lynn Camp taking a 28-15 lead into the dressing room at the break.
Lynn Camp added two strikes in the third quarter. Jackson broke loose for a 40-yard run to put the Wildcats ahead 34-15 with 6:49 in the quarter.
