UPDATED: Several injured following six-car pile up on I-75 Saturday afternoon

Corbin Police Chief David Campbell surveys part of the wreckage left from a six-vehicle accident on I-75 between Corbin and Williamsburg Saturday afternoon.
A Corbin Police officer’s efforts to help a person involved in a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 75 led to a second wreck that involved six vehicles including an RV and the officer’s SUV and sent four people to the hospital, one of whom is in critical condition.
Corbin Police K-9 Officer Tim Baker responded to the single vehicle wreck southbound near the 21-mile marker about 3 p.m. Saturday. He was attempting to slow traffic as it came around a curve near the site of the wreck.
However, an RV, driven by Marvin Jasper, 85, of Lebanon, Ohio, was unable to slow down on the wet roadway, missing Baker’s vehicle, but rear-ending a minivan as it plowed along the cable barrier.
"The front of the RV is all torn up," Corbin Police Chief David Campbell said, adding this he couldn’t explain how vehicle the RV was towing stayed secure throughout the incident.
Four other vehicles were caught up as drivers tried to slow down, including a Chrysler minivan, which was severely damaged and left in the middle of the highway near Baker’s vehicle. The driver of the minivan, Brad Rupp, 46, of Archbold, Ohio, had to be extricated from the vehicle by Three Point Firefighters. He was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center and then transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he was listed in fair condition.
"It just happened really fast," said one witness.
Other vehicles involved in the wreck included a Dodge Caravan, mini-van driven by Donald Stanley Post, 80, of Woodstock, Ont., Canada. Post and a passenger, Elanor Millard, 71, also of Woodstock, were both taken to BRMC. Millard was also transferred to UK where she is listed in critical condition.
Edward Newcom, 75 of Dade City, Fla. was uninjured, but the passenger in his Buick Lucerne, Sharon Newcom, 72, was taken to BRMC.
The final vehicle involved was a Ford Taurus, driven by Edwin Black, 43, of Rainbow City, Ala. Neither Black nor his passenger, Eddie Black, 19, was injured.
Campbell said Baker was not injured in the wreck. His vehicle suffered minor damage, but was towed from the scene.
Traffic was backed up to just south of exit 29. Oncoming traffic was diverted off the interstate at exit 29 taking U.S. 25W as an alternate route but was still backup beyond the Ky. 312 overpass.
KSP Traffic Crash Reconstructionist Trooper Craig Reed stated that neither drugs nor alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Seat belts were in use by all of those involved in the wreck.
State Police were assisted at the scene by Corbin Police, Whitley County EMS, Three Point Fire Department and Corbin Fire Department.

Some reports have been wrong saying my aunt Eleanot Millard was from Woodstock, Ohio. She is from Woodstock, Ontario, Canada. She was airlifted to Canada. Has had surgery & is in critical condition. It is amazing she got out of that car! Truly God was watching over her.
Thank you J. Rogers for the answer to my question. I am so glad to hear that the police dog is ok.
Officer Baker didn’t have his K-9 companion with him at the time.
TO Mrs Rupp, GOD is the only one that can help durning trials and hard times I am so glad to know that you have him to lean on. I do have one question. The police officer that had his vechile hit was a K-9 officer. Was his dog with him and was he /she hurt when the car was hit. Nothing has been said about the dog who is also a police officer.
I’m glad everyone will be okay, and Mrs. Rupp, you are one classy woman. Thank you for your positive comments, and our continued prayers for all involved.
I was on the scene of the orginal Accident,(the one car that lost control and hit the barrier) and made the call to local authorities while trying to slow cars appraoching as the car was partially blocking the left lane. Being there to see the impact f the Rv and the damage to all the vehivcles involved was one of the scariest events I have ever seen. Being a fire fighter from my home town in SC, I was ammazed that no one was injured beyond what was. My thoughts and prayers are with those involved, and their families.
And to Mr. Jasper…we are so very glad you are okay!
To those of you who are concerned with those involved in the I-75 multi vehicle accident on New Year’s Day,
I thank you for your concern for the families affected by the accident. My husband, Brad was in the red minivan that was struck by the RV. We are touched to know that prayers were being said for all of us affected by this terrible crash! To up date you on my husband’s condition, he is stable. He has extensive injuries that are fixable. The fact that he is alive is an act of God. How are we? We are resting in God’s faithfulness to us! We know the One and Only, God of the Holy Bible, the One who knows us all by name and has each of us in full view. He has protected and provided for us in many ways in our lifetime. Jesus has built a reputation of being trustworthy and faithful – and that is the Rock we’re standing on in this difficult time. Please pray for successful surgeries and for complete healing in time. If you are in a time of your life where you are questioning/seeking God, I hope that you will take the necessary steps forward to know him better. Mrs. Brad Rupp
I would like to say that I personally know Mr. Jasper, and this message is for you MIKE, to assume that just because the press has some half-wit thing to say about an accident that has not even been investigated yet, doesnt mean that you should go running your mouth about someone’s ability to drive a vehicle. My prayers are with everyone involved in the accident, (injured, or not) This is an ACCIDENT. They happen everyday. Let’s not go head hunting over it.
I was 1 1/2 miles behind the accident stopped for 3 hours. I am glad to hear the no one was killed. I know that there were prayers being said in my vehicle and I am sure many more. Ambulances and other rescue vehicles kept going by and we wondered what had happened. Thank you for the article, I can now rest easy that there were no fatalities.
Lets hope Mr. Jasper gets set up for a drivers license re-evaluation and a road test.
I know Brad and his family personaly – Just heard about the accident and am praying for Brad and his recovery. Also for Julie and the kids, as well as Brads parents.
God is good!

Thank you for the update on this. You all do a great job at the Journal.
God must have had his hand on that van for nobody to have killed. We are still praying for everyone involved.
This isn’t the first accident to happen around Corbin, London or Williamsburg and there is never a follow up on the accident, we never hear another word about the accidents or the people involved there should be updates on these stories.
I also passed that accident on my way home to Ohio yesterday. I also would like to know the ages and conditions of the people in the van. I can’t believe there weren’t any fatalities. It was horrible to see. Prayed so much for the families involved as I am sure others did when they saw it.
This story broke over 24 hours ago and neither this newspaper nor WKYT have the names, ages, or condition of those involved in the accident. Is anyone home over there getting the story? I drove past the aftermath of this accident on our way home to Ohio and would really like to know how everyone in the accident is doing before this story goes away.
There is certainly a greater power out there that allowed everyone to come out of this alive. Thank you
