The Whitley County Lady Colonels outscored the Williamsburg Lady Jackets 35-24 in the second half to pulled out a 58-42 victory.
“I thought we played much better in the second half,” said Whitley County Coach Larry Anderson. “We moved the ball better in the second half.
With Brandi (Smith) out we have to have other kids stepping up and we have some kids willing to do that,” he said.
Williamsburg kept the game close in the first half. The Lady Jackets trailed 7-2 after four minutes of play, but rallied to tie the game at the end of the quarter, 9-9.
Kandace Craig and Jerica Daniels scored the first five points of the second quarter and the Lady Colonels never trailed.
Williamsburg cut the lead to one (19-18) on a Carissa Conlin basket with 1:47 left in the half, but back-to-back basket by Bethany Powers and Craig gave the Lady Colonels a 23-18 lead at the half.
Whitley County pushed the lead out to ten (38-28) after three quarters then pulled away in the final frame.
Jade Jones and Leeanna Moses led Whitley County with 10 points.
Conlin led all scorers with 17 points.
