Corbin City Commission to discuss grant application for recreational trails
The Corbin City Commission will take the next step toward making the walking/biking trail along Bacon Creek a reality when commissioners vote on whether to permit the mayor to begin the grant application process at Monday’s meeting.
"We don’t know if we are getting the money, but we are getting everything lined up," Corbin Mayor Willard McBurney said.
Though officials have only a rough design, McBurney said the trail will be approximately 1 and 3/4 miles, stretching along property behind Wayne Supply, Corbin High School and Forest Bowling Lanes, crossing Bacon Creek at least once and possibly twice.
"There is a partial trail already there," McBurney said, noting the property belongs to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Corbin School System and Forest Bowling Lanes.
City officials have been working on the project for about two years, McBurney said.
McBurney added that it is unknown how much the grant will total or exactly how much the city may have to put up as in-kind money. However, he is certain the city can use work completed by city employees toward the in-kind money.
Other items on Monday’s agenda include
• Appointment of a Mayor Pro-tem
• Accept the audit completed by Cloyd and Associates
• Authorize the city manager to advertise for up to three city police officer
• Make appointments to the personnel board
• Make appointments to the budget committee
• Make an appointment to the code enforcement board
The meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 5 p.m. on the second floor of Corbin City Hall.

What good is a bike/walking trail going to do if the roads are in such bad shape that people can’t get to them to use them? Have you ever leaned against an unbalanced washing machine? That’s about what driving down Main & Kentucky streets is like…Is there a grant for that?
