Williamsburg police executed a search warrant at a former Whitley County 911 employee’s home Tuesday, and recovered numerous items that were allegedly purchased with state and federal grant money, according to a police department press release.
About 9 a.m. Tuesday, Williamsburg police began an investigation into possible stolen or missing property located in the Whitley County 911 Mapping Coordinator’s Office at the Whitley County Airport, Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird said in the press release.
Police received the information after Larry Howard was terminated for work performance issues in late February 2011, Bird wrote.
Tuesday morning during an inventory of the mapping coordinator’s office, Williamsburg police seized several items, including medical equipment allegedly taken from the Knox County Hospital, which was valued at $1,700, according to the release.
The investigation prompted a search warrant that was later executed at Howard’s 1000 Aviation Boulevard home. Williamsburg police officers with the help of Kentucky State Emergency Management recovered numerous items from the residence that were purchased with state and federal grant monies, Bird wrote.
"The Williamsburg Police Department will continue the investigation working with Kentucky State Emergency Management and the Knox County Fiscal Court," according to the press release.
"The investigation is expected to be time consuming due to the amount of items seized and the paper trail of receipts that will have to be tracked. No arrest or charges have been filed at this time."
