Corbin Main Street Manager announces resignation

Effective April 22, Corbin officials will be looking for a new Main Street Program Manager.

City Manager Bill Ed Cannon confirmed that current Main Street Manager Sharae Myers gave her two-weeks notice that she is leaving the position during the staff meeting Monday.

"She said it was for personal reasons and we will leave it at that," Cannon said when asked why Meyers is leaving.
Cannon credited Myers for doing some good things to help revitalize downtown Corbin. However, Myers’ job became more difficult in June 2010 when the Corbin City Commission voted to cut her position to part-time in an effort to help balance the city’s budget.

Along with reducing Myers’ hours, the commission cut the department’s operating budget from $158,601 to $29,877.
Though about 30 people showed up at the city commission meeting in June to protest the cuts, Cannon defended the decision, noting the Main Street Program is less essential compared to other city services such as Police and Fire departments, public works or parks and recreation.

Cannon said there is no timetable for hiring a new Main Street Manager, but emphasized that the program must continue.

Myers was hired in late 2006 by a committee of local government and civic leaders. She started the job in Jan. 2007.

City officials say she has informed them she plans to take a position with the Times Tribune after her departure.
