Phipps, Steely to be crowned 2011 May Queen and Tiny Queen
Cassidy Phipps has been named May Queen 2011. Cassidy is the daughter of Dale and Jennifer Phipps. During the festival, Cassidy will be escorted by Wayne Logan, the son of Duane and Alicia Logan.
Tiny Queen 2011 is Caroline Steely, the daughter of Mark and Carla Steely, and will be escorted by her brother, Seth Steely.
Both queens will be crowned during the 68th annual presentation of the May Day Festival, Friday, May 6, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. at The Arena. The theme for this year’s event will be “Fantasy Under the Sea”. The May Day Festival is sponsored each year by the GFWC/KFWC Ossoli Club of Corbin.
Steve Haines, owner of Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, will be the celebrity announcer for the festival. During the festivities, the members of the royal courts will be presented.
First runner-up to the May Queen is Myranda Thomas, daughter of Gary and Marva Gambrel and Scott Thomas, to be escorted by Joseph Lowe, the son of Tim and Lana Lowe.
Second runner-up is Kennedy Foley, the daughter of Wendell and Sandy Foley, to be escorted by Tyler Vaughn, the son of Gilbert and Angie Vaughn.
Third runner-up is Sara Pennington, the daughter of Brandon Pennington and Janie Pennington, to be escorted by Jeff Dzugan, the son of Thomas and Sharlene Dzugan.
Fourth runner-up is Taylor Hamlin, the daughter of Jeff and Gina Hamlin, to be escorted by Josh Jewell, the son of Jackie and Karen Jewell.
Fifth runner-up is Lindsay Ingle, the daughter of Brad and Robin Ingle, to be escorted by Tony Bernardo, the son of Alesia and the late John Bernardo.
Sixth runner-up is Sydney Neeley, the daughter of Heather Manns and Dwaine Neeley, to be escorted by Cai Jackson, the son of Terry Jackson and Robin Jackson.
Rounding out the Court in alphabetical order are Whitney Baker, the daughter of Bruce and Renee’ Hooker and Marvin and Suzanne Baker, to be escorted by Zach Tye, the son of Tim and the late Regina Tye; Maggie Ballou, the daughter of David and Jamie Ballou, to be escorted by Chad Vermillion, the son of Chris and Jamie Vermillion; Whitley Lickliter, the daughter of Sherry Guiher and Robbie Lickliter, to be escorted by Jimi Lambdin, the son of Brian and Stacy Lambdin; Malerie McDowell, the daughter of James and Melinda McDowell, to be escorted by Joshua Partin, the son of Floyd and Melissa Partin; Lauren Powell, the daughter of Wally and Jennifer Powell, to be escorted by Jeffery Canady, the son of Jeff Canady and Melissa Alderton; Gabriela Sadler, the daughter of Luke Sadler and Krista Sadler, to be escorted by Johnathan Hubbard, the son of Mike and Kelli Hubbard; and Mallory Wood, the daughter of Rodney and Janie Wood, to be escorted by Cody Boyd, the son of Mark and Melissa Boyd.
Trumpeteers, who will herald the beginning of the festival and the arrival of the Queens and their courts, will be Kenton Lowe and Landon Hayes.
The May Queen’s flower girls will be Ainsley Keck, Candace Lillie Keith, Peyton Webb, and Rachel Newberry.
The May Queen’s trainbearers will be Zachary Clifton and Tyler Clifton.
The 2010 May Queen, Haley Huff, will present the crown to Corbin Mayor Willard McBurney, who will crown the new Queen.
The attendants to the 2011 Tiny Queen are first runner-up, Emily Holcomb, the daughter of Chris and Deborah Holcomb; second runner-up, Lauren Hamilton, the daughter of Matt and Denise Hamilton; third runner-up is Sydnee Moore, the daughter of Allen and Kelli Moore; fourth runner-up is Annabella Lankford, the daughter of Richard and Rebecca Lankford.
Rounding out the Court in alphabetical order are Addison Bingham, the daughter of Christopher and Robyn Bingham; Camille Greer, the daughter of Eric and Kay Greer; Riley Lewis, the daughter of Vince and Kelli Lewis; and Ava Maguet, the daughter of Matthew and Erin Maquet.
Following the crowning ceremonies, the courts will be honored by the presentation of the May Day program. The traditional winding of the May Pole will be presented by the Gail Frederick School of Dance. Little Lambs will present “Crocodile Rock”; Corbin Preschool will present “Rock a Hula” and “Silly Pirate Song”; Corbin Primary will present “Dock of the Bay”, “Yellow Submarine”, “Beach Boys Mix”, “Under the Sea”, “It’s a Pirate’s Life for Me”, “Shark Attack”, “Summertime Hits”, “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” and St. Camillus Academy will present “Turtle Rock”.
Admission for the program will be $5 for adults and $2 for students. Tickets may be purchased at participating schools and will be sold at The Arena box office beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m..
Proceeds from the festival support worthwhile causes throughout the year.
