Organized crime charges possible following drug raid in Woodbine
Williamsburg police say organized crime or criminal syndicate related charges are possible in connection with a search warrant they served Tuesday afternoon in Woodbine.
About 4 p.m., Williamsburg police executed a search warrant at the 504 Highway 26 residence of Albert Eugene McKiddy.
"The search warrant was the result of a two-month investigation conducted by Detective Bobby Freeman and members of the Williamsburg Police Department into the illegal sale of narcotics from the residence," said Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird.
"During the past two months, officers through the use of cooperating witnesses were able to purchase approximately 60 Oxycodone tablets, a schedule II narcotic, and 20 Hydrocodone tablets, a scheduled III narcotic, from the residence."
During the two-month investigation, Williamsburg police spent between $2,000 and $3,000 making controlled drug buys at the residence. Under new state guidelines, this quantity meets the threshold to pursue felony charges, Bird said.
Police recovered $300 cash, a 9mm handgun, a police scanner, and about 20 Oxycodone 10-mg tablets.
No arrests have been made at this time, but the case will be presented to the Whitley County Grand Jury as a drug conspiracy case.
While serving the search warrant, Bird said that authorities discovered that several more people are involved.
Police are aware of at least five people involved with the conspiracy, and may present it to the grand jury as a criminal syndicate or engaging in organized crime case, which is a class ‘B’ felony, Bird said.
These charges require the involvement of at least five or more people, he noted.
Bird added that officers in his department did a really good job with the investigation.
