Police searching for suspects in strong-armed robbery in Corbin Monday
Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies are searching for four men who robbed a customer at a North Corbin gas station Monday night.
According to Sheriff John Root, the victim, James Debell, 66, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, was walking between the pumps and the building about 7 p.m. Monday when the men came up to him and threatened to hurt him if he did not turn over his money and valuables.
"It was a strong-armed robbery," Acciardo said. "They didn’t have any weapons. They just threatened him."
The robbers made off with a diamond ring and an undisclosed amount of cash.
"He was only able to give a vague description of two of the men," Laurel County Sheriff’s Public Affairs Officer Gilbert Acciardo said.
Deputy Greg Turner is continuing the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, 864-6600.
Acciardo said this appears to be an isolated incident, but advised citizens to be aware of their surrounding and to take precautions.
According to the website Law, crime and justice @ suite 101, a man’s wallet or a woman’s purse present tempting targets for robbers/thieves.
Men are advised to keep their wallets in the front pocket if possible. Women are advised to carry a purse with a strap long enough to put their head through and drape the purse next to the body.
Here are some other things that will help avoid possible trouble:
. When going in a store or gas station, lock all car doors to prevent someone from getting in the back or the opposite side when you get back into your car.
. Keep the car locked while driving to prevent someone from getting in when you stop at a light.
. If someone comes to the car window to ask for directions or information, only open it a crack to talk to them to prevent them from reaching inside.
. Avoid being out alone, especially at night, but if you are, have a can of pepper spray and your cell phone in your pocket.

Yea, I know this victim personally also. I agree about 4 cowards who did MORE than threaten him. A whole gas station full of people and no-one bothered to help? Then the police took there time getting there. Wonder if they looked at the video cameras around the place? I won’t be stopping in that town anytime soon either.
I know the victim personally. These cowards, all of which appeared to be younger, targeted this guy because they didn’t want a struggle. It took law enforcement over an hour to get to the scene. The 911 dispatcher said they didn’t have any available officers because they were all tied up with a suicide case! We used to stop in Corbin to fill up the car and eat at the Cracker Barrel–not any more!
good point Abigail!!
Women should never carry a purse with the strap around their neck. If someone wants the purse bad enough they will hurt you getting it, possible breaking your neck. Carry your money, keys, etc. when possible, leaving your purse at home or at least out of site.
