Three arrested for stealing scrap metal from old truck stop site
Three Corbin men were arrested Wednesday for stealing scrap metal from a southern Laurel County truck stop that is in the process of being demolished.
According to Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell, 47-year-old Robert Lee Russell, 38-year-old James Theodore Walker and Donald Ray Causey were all arrested and charged with receiving stolen property following and investigation into the incident by Deputy Bill Riley.
Police say the three took over 500 items from the old King’s Truck Stop site, located near I-75 Exit 29 in north Corbin. The building is in the process of being torn down. The items taken consisted of scrap metal, steel and copper. The metal was valued at between $7,000 and $8,000. The stolen items were recovered at Russell’s residence on 7th Street in Corbin where he was also arrested.
Causey and Walker were arrested in north Corbin.
All three were lodged in the Whitley County Jail.
